WHY THIS SHAPE
It looks simple, until you pick it up
Pukyu is a low, open pot with no handle and no spout to clog. The leaves lie in a wide, shallow bowl where they have room to unfurl, and the lid sits just inside the rim. To pour, hold the lid down and tip: the tea runs out through the pinched lip while the leaves stay behind. It suits teas that want space more than heat — sencha, gyokuro, and green teas brewed short and often.
- inward rim
holds the leaves back as you pour
- small volume
just enough for one
- buttons to hold
let you hold the pot while it is hot
From the studio —rinse the leaves out while the clay is still warm, and let it dry open.
Questions, answered
Will mine look exactly like the photo?
Almost but not exactly. Each piece is thrown by hand and glazed in small kiln loads, so the glaze breaks and speckles a little differently every firing. The piece you receive is one of 1 from this batch.
Is it food-safe? Can it go in the microwave, dishwasher or oven?
Yes to all four. The clay and glazes are food-safe, and the piece is fine in the microwave, the dishwasher and the oven.
Can I pick it up at the studio?
Yes. Send me an email with the pieces you would like to get. I'll write to confirm your pieces and agree a day. The studio is at Danneckerstraße 7, 10245 Berlin, open Tue–Fri 12–18, Sat 10–16, and I hold a confirmed order for 7 days.
Can I order a set, or a custom piece?
Yes — write to hello@claymatter.co and tell me what you have in mind: a set of this piece for your table, or something made to your own size or glaze. I'll reply with what's possible and when the next firing could have it ready.
