WHY THIS SHAPE
It looks simple, until you pick it up
Shimo is narrow and tall, with frost-pale flashing on the side that faced the firebox. Made for a single branch in the months when nothing flowers.
-
↘ narrow neck — holds one branch upright
-
↘ flashed side — the kiln chose which face is the front
From the studio — let it stay empty sometimes. The shape was made to be looked at, too.
Questions, answered
Will mine look exactly like the photo?
Almost — but not exactly, and that's the point. Each piece is thrown by hand and glazed in small kiln loads, so the glaze breaks and speckles a little differently every firing. The piece you receive is one of 4 from this batch.
What happens when this batch is gone?
There are only 4, and we don't throw the same batch twice. Once they're sold, the firing stays in the shop so you can still see it, and you can leave your email to hear when we fire something like it again.
Can I pick it up at the studio?
Yes. Choose pickup at checkout and pay when you collect — nothing is charged online. We'll write to confirm your pieces and agree a day. The studio is at Danneckerstraße 7, 10245 Berlin, open Tue–Fri 12–18, Sat 10–16, and we hold a confirmed order for 7 days.
Can I order a set, or a custom piece?
Yes — write to hello@claymatter.co and tell us what you have in mind: a set of this piece for your table, or something made to your own size or glaze. We'll reply with what's possible and when the next firing could have it ready.
